WHAT IS DIGIMODELTRAINS?

I’m Oriol, an Industrial Design Engineer.

From Barcelona, Spain, DIGIModelTrains was born from the combination of my engineering background and one of my greatest passions: railway modelling.

I have always enjoyed not only the railway models themselves, but also understanding how they work, looking for solutions, and designing things that can improve a model railway layout. Over time, this curiosity made railway modelling more than just a hobby, turning it into a space where I can also apply my knowledge of design, manufacturing, and technology.

The idea behind DIGIModelTrains actually began with some situations I experienced in my own collection. One of them occurred when I added American rolling stock to my collection and discovered that the coupling systems used were not compatible with many of the European wagons from American companies that I already owned. What seemed like a small detail ended up becoming a limitation when combining rolling stock from different manufacturers and origins.

In addition, even among European rolling stock, I encountered differences in coupler height between locomotives and wagons. On my own layout, these differences, combined with certain sections of track such as gradients and turnouts, meant that conventional couplers could uncouple too easily, causing entire consists to separate while running.

These experiences were the starting point for developing my own magnetic couplers, looking for a solution that would allow rolling stock from different manufacturers to be connected while also improving the reliability of consists during operation.

But DIGIModelTrains is not only about couplers. I also design and develop accessories for our model railway layouts using 3D technology, such as tunnels, bridges, and other elements designed to add more detail and personality to each layout, which will become available on the website in the future.

My goal is to create a space by and for enthusiasts, where you can find solutions, products, and services that help you enjoy railway modelling even more, while I continue looking for new ways to improve our layouts.

All of this comes from a very personal perspective: that of a hobbyist who not only enjoys railway modelling, but also enjoys designing, experimenting, and finding solutions.
