DISADVANTAGES
OF STANDARD
COUPLERS

Couplers are one of the smallest parts of a train, but they can become one of the biggest problems when it comes to keeping your trains running smoothly.

Incompatibilities between brands, differences in height, uncoupling on curves and gradients, difficult-to-handle train compositions, or impractical coupling systems are common issues for many model railway enthusiasts.

And, when it comes to N scale, the size of the coupler also has a significant impact on the model’s appearance.

INCOMPATIBILITY
BETWEEN COUPLERS

STANDARD COUPLERS

Not all trains speak the same language

You may have an American locomotive and want to combine it with European wagons that reproduce American rolling stock. Although they may look compatible, their coupling systems can be completely different.

In addition, different brands use different systems, dimensions, and designs.

As a result, finding the right coupler for a specific model can become a real search with no satisfactory outcome.

Which coupler do I need? Is it compatible with my locomotive? Is there one available for my wagon? Which version should I buy?

When you have rolling stock from different brands and origins, simply coupling two vehicles may not be as easy as it should be.

MAGNETIC COUPLERS

Our magnetic couplers are designed to provide a secure, precise, and easy-to-uncouple connection, adapting to different locomotives and wagons.

You choose the magnet diameter. We make sure it’s the right coupler for your model.

HEIGHT
DIFFERENCES

STANDARD COUPLERS

Compatibility doesn’t mean they work perfectly

Even within the same type of coupler, manufacturing tolerances, minor production defects, or wear from use can cause differences in height between two couplers.

At a glance, they may look identical, but just a few millimetres can be enough to make the connection unstable.

The problem becomes especially noticeable on curves, turnouts, gradients, uneven track, or when vibrations occur, where the couplers can lose proper contact and eventually uncouple while running.

MAGNETIC COUPLERS

The magnetic system provides a stable connection between vehicles, maintaining contact between both couplers during operation.

Its design and different magnet diameters allow the coupling force to be adapted to each application, providing reliable performance on curves, turnouts, gradients, and under different operating conditions.

A simple, stable connection designed to prevent uncoupling.

CURVES, GRADIENTS AND
CHANGES IN ELEVATION

STANDARD COUPLERS

The track is not always completely level

The track is not always completely level. Couplers have to work in all kinds of situations, tight curves, gradients, changes in elevation, and transitions between straight and curved sections.

When the connection is not secure enough, these changes in geometry can create tension between the vehicles and cause the coupler to release.

This is especially noticeable on very tight curves or when entering and leaving a gradient, where even a small loss of contact can be enough to cause the train to uncouple.

MAGNETIC COUPLERS

Magnetic couplers maintain a firm and flexible connection between vehicles, allowing the train to travel through curves, gradients, and changes in elevation without losing the connection.

The magnetic force keeps both couplers in contact, reducing the risk of uncoupling even when the track changes geometry.

LONG TRAIN CONSISTS

STANDARD COUPLERS

A long consist should be easy to move from the display case to the layout

Some consists are made up of many vehicles and use special couplers that are very secure, but can be very difficult to couple and uncouple.

If you have your train displayed in a display case and want to run it, you may end up having to separate each wagon, move it, reassemble the entire consist, and repeat the process when putting it back on display.

Too much work just to put a train on the track.

In some cases, this difficulty can make you leave the consist in the display case and lose the motivation to run it.

MAGNETIC COUPLERS

With magnetic couplers, you can separate your consists much more quickly while maintaining a secure and reliable connection during operation.

Less time uncoupling.
More time running your trains.
